Service Ownership

Introduction

Managing risks in any governance system requires effective controls, but ultimately, humans hold the responsibility. Keeping a register of service ownership in diverse software landscapes is essential for several reasons:

  • Knowledge: Identifying who has expertise on the system and can provide support.

  • Incident Management: Knowing who to contact when service alerts are triggered and understanding recent changes.

  • Audit: Ensuring accountability for following the SDLC for each service.

Implementation of this control

With our relatively straightforward product and single engineering squad, we address this need by recording service ownership through environment monitoring. This method ensures clear accountability and effective management of services. Incidents are recorded and managed using Flarekit, our Incident Management product.
